PBS - POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT

PBS stands for Positive Behavior Support. It is a well-researched approach, used by many schools around the world. PBS aims to create a predictable and positive environment for the children in the school by teaching and rewarding positive behaviour.

To put it simple, when correcting a child on its behaviour, you tell the child which behaviour you do want to see, instead of what you don’t want to see. For example: “Walking in school” (positively formulated language) instead of ”STOP running!”. We teach children the positively formulated rules for expected behaviour (e.g. ‘waiting for your turn’) and by reinforcing it, the positive behaviour will occur more. By teaching the same rules school wide in the same positive way, children are consistently reminded of what behaviour is expected of them.

Every 2 weeks all classrooms teach one (positively formulated) rule to the children. We send a copy of the current rule home, so parents can preferably reinforce the rule at home as well.
